We are Electric Sheep. We create AI learning and development experiences for all levels, from AI novice to AI power user.
Our courses, hackathons and residential accelerators focus on making AI safe, and ensuring AI development respects social, environmental and interspecies justice.
We also run special initiatives to support AI safety talent in Global Majority countries, and from underserved backgrounds.
Our Mission
The era of AI brings huge possibilities. New frontiers are opened daily in disease prevention, knowledge sharing, leisure, pleasure and purpose. Intelligence is squared, learning is everywhere.
So how to filter? How to sort out the peril from the promise?
The future is far from inevitably rosy. The spectre of mis-handling this most powerful technology looms - and with it potentially awful consequences for:
> Marginalized communities;
> Our planet and its ecosystems;
> Current and future generations through catastrophic risks and suffering, especially among the most vulnerable
> Vulnerable species
Electric Sheep’s work is to tip the balance towards good. We exist to enable talented researchers and builders to apply themselves to overcome the challenges posed by frontier AI - as well as to realize its considerable benefits.
As such we support both safety research and what is known as ‘D-acc’ - defensive acceleration or building for safer AI. We want to empower more of us, especially those in groups who are currently outside this conversation, to learn, take charge and build the solutions that unlock a safer, more compassionate AI future for all.
Our Work
We run truly global, inclusive and immersive courses, events, hackathon and residentials programs that foster learning, collaboration and building.
We empower people to create change-making projects in key areas - focussing on avoiding AI catastrophic risk, AI for climate, AI for animal lives and AGI security - and taking you along a pathway from individual to community; project to pitch.
When you take part in one of our courses, jump on one of our hackathons, or come to our residential accelerator programs, you join a community of pioneers, social entrepreneurs, builders, researchers and system-changers. Electric Sheep in their thousands come from all over the world, an incredible movement of AI for good.
So if you’re a coder seeking a more meaningful challenge; a researcher making AI safer for ecosystems and species; an NGO or government worker looking to understand the possibilities and perils of AI; or just someone who’s intrigued by AI and wants to help it go well…. we’ll give you the tools, the understanding, the collaborators, the mentorship, the support you need to help learn, envision and build a better AI future for all.
Electric Sheep Rising: our journey so far
We’re growing fast - though given how fast AI is accelerating we know we need to grow faster still! We were conceived during the BlueDot Impact AI governance course and as part of the Kickstarting for Good Accelerator as a ‘pro-welfare’, AI -risk-mitigating learning intervention. 7000 data points later and it became clear that there was a necessity, not only for reflection and research but also for upskilling and mentoring into the pathways that enable us to build and ship a better future, one prototype at a time.
Our first Futurekind fellowship cohort took place in early 2025 uniting 120 fellows across 14 time-zones in AI for good. They delivered 35 highly commended projects, many prototypes taken forward for further mentorship and development. At the same time we launched our first Bay Area Code 4 Compassion, where 81 coders developed 16 animal advocacy AI prototypes, with an even higher count of developers moving forward from that experience into paid work in AI for impact while building impactful innovations and AI tools.
Since then we've been developing our work with a focus on supporting the builders, thinkers and workers of a new global generation of AI for good.
We know that it’s not only in Silicon Valley or Europe where AI for good happens. We scour the world for the doers and builders, those whose talents can support the causes we care about.
Our courses and hackathons diversify and democratize AI safety, harnessing civic building and development traditions in Asia, South America and beyond. That’s why our first bricks-and-mortar Campus incubator is in Bengaluru - and why we’ll continue to build opportunities and uncover development pathways for good at scale within global majority countries.
Now, we’ve evolved Futurekind into FutureAI, covering areas such as catastrophic risk in the Global South and climate change. We’re running Code for Compassions all over the world, from US, to Europe. And we’ve created a beautiful Campus in Bengaluru to attract a new generation of Global South talent. And we’ve only just begun…
