The era of AI brings huge possibilities. New frontiers are opened daily in disease prevention, knowledge sharing, leisure, pleasure and purpose. Yet at the same time the spectre of mis-handling this most powerful technology looms - and with it potentially awful consequences for marginalized communities, for our planet and its ecosystems, and for planetary-scale suffering, especially among vulnerable animal lives.

Electric Sheep exists to raise awareness of these often neglected dangers - and empower more of us, especially our talented young people and those in the global majority, to take charge and build the solutions.

The potential - bad and good - is immense. Our research shows that some 76 billion animals are at risk of extreme suffering from AI powered farming alone. This is not to mention the extant risk to habitats and ecosystems from misaligned, ill-judged AI systems.

The obverse of this is impact on a planetary scale. Electric Sheep’s global community of AI builders and researchers is changing this - and driving positive change of incredible orders of magnitude. Our AI powered apps and research projects each in their own way shift the dial, building the capacity and talent to make a difference. We calculate that each Futurekind Fellow adds $2500 of value to the impact sector. Each prototype we deliver adds an additional $15000 of value. This hands-on approach ensures that learners not only understand AI's potential but also actively contribute to meaningful change across the research, tech and NGO sectors. We are aiming to make change happen in big numbers using pioneer methods and are backing that up on the ground, and deliver impact-ROI for our donors of up to 100x the value of the donation.

We are a non-profit initiative (501(c)(3) fiscally sponsored in the US) dedicated to harnessing artificial intelligence for the betterment of species, ecosystems, and society. We do not charge for our training; our model is to offer free, expert-mentored courses that empower thousands of individuals—regardless of their technical background—to develop AI solutions or engage in AI safety research focused on food animal and environmental protection.
