Electric Sheep’s Futurekind AI Winter 25/26 Fellowship. Applications now open!

Electric Sheep’s Futurekind AI Fellowship is a pioneering 12-week learning, building & professional development journey.

It takes you from AI-curious, to AI-for-Good ‘power-user.’ It immerses you in the rapidly developing intersection of AI & animal protection, arming you with knowledge, skills, project mentorship and certifications to accelerate your impact and boost your career.

We’ve learned a lot from our ultra-successful first run in Summer 2025, which yielded 117 fellows and 35 teams working on some amazing projects and building life-long connections to develop their impact. Here’s a selection of what they produced.

Building on that foundation, we’re excited to open applications for the bigger, more focussed, and more ambitious Winter 2025/26 Futurekind Fellowship.

Session format

  • Weekly facilitated discussions (1.5–2 hours)

  • Readings & pre-session exercises (2–3 hours per week)

  • Optional workshops, webinars, and Q&As with senior researchers and practitioners

No technical knowledge is needed to participate. If you’re unsure about your fit, we encourage you to apply anyway! We welcome participants from a variety of backgrounds.

As part of Futurekind you'll experience:

🎓 The Immersion Block (weeks 1-5):

  • Survey current & emerging AI applications with significant implications for animals, ecosystems and planet, such as decoding animal communication

  • Gain access to powerful AI tools for animal and environmental impact advocacy

  • Explore impactful career pathways at the AI/animals frontier

🎓The Specialization Block (weeks 6-8):

Gives participants the chance to go deeper in one of three tracks:

  • Builder — specialized classes on code and no-code tools, with practical implementations

  • Researcher — writing, policy design, and strategies for influence

  • Career-Developer — pathways for working with governments, NGOs, and industry actors

Fellows will choose one track as their focus but may also audit classes across the other tracks.

🏗️ The Project Block (weeks 9-12):

  • Transition from learners to doers

  • Prepare a final work drawing on what you have learned during the course: a concrete contribution to animal welfare & protection

  • To support research, collaboration, & project development, you will have access to powerful AI platforms tailored for non-profits

  • Receive tailored mentorship from leading professionals across academia, industry, & other sectors who will guide your project development & career building

We currently run Futurekind in two annual Fellowship cohorts: Summer and Winter. We get interest and applications to these programs in the thousands and are able to currently offer around 1 in 10 applicants a place, so getting your thoughts on why you’d like to be part of the Futurekind community is key to getting on board.

Why not get a taste of your learning journey as part of the Futurekind AI Fellowship by trying the taster sessions below: a self-directed Mini-Fellowship we call Futurekind Fundamentals. You may also join our Slack community as a guest contributor; we look forward to seeing you over there!

Futurekind is where AI meets positive impact and global flourishing - for you and for thousands of learners all over the world from a diverse array of backgrounds who form the Futurekind community.

Futurekind is Electric Sheep’s online-first, free, entry-level-to- intermediate, expert-mentored group-learning course. It focusses in this iteration specifically on the intersection of AI, ecosystem and animal protection, introducing participants from all over the world, from a dazzling array of backgrounds, to ideas and tools from tech, ethics and policy that will help make AI go well.

We welcome applicants from all walks of life. Absolutely no coding experience or specific educational attainment is required (though both are certainly valued!) - but what’s most important and indeed non negotiable is demonstrable commitment to social impact and a real desire and curiosity to use AI intentionally and safely to make real positive impact for our planet and its sentient life. If you’re not sure if Futurekind is right for you, we absolutely encourage you to apply… and see where the journey takes you.
