FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Berlin, November 21, 2025
Berlin, Germany – November 21, 2025 – in the centre of Berlin this week, 75 developers, designers, and sustainability and animal advocates gathered for the Code for Compassion Berlin in-person hackathon.
Co-hosted by AI-for-good pioneers Electric Sheep and OpenPaws, the event brought together participants both in person and online to build ethical, impactful AI tools for the animal advocacy, sustainability and food systems sectors.
Under the guidance of expert mentors and mission-driven technologists - as well as celebrities and influencers from across the impact community - participants rapidly prototyped AI-driven solutions designed to improve the lives of our planet and its animals, empower activists, and democratize access to effective advocacy tools.
They competed for a $3000 prize pot donated by pioneering global impact accelerator Kickstarting 4 Good - and the opportunity to be accelerated into production at the brand new Code for Compassion Campus in Asia’s most exciting tech city, Bangalore.
"Berlin is one of the best places in the world to do impactful tech," said Electric Sheep CEO Ash Singh, who added,
"The incredible developers and activists who came together today have begun the journey to producing generational tech-for-good that will turbo-charge social, environmental and animal protection."
The event featured support from Patrik Baboumian, Germany's Strongest Man, videogame producer and prominent plant-based athlete, who reflected on the potential of AI as a force multiplier for ethical causes.
Mentors and judges included AI researchers, campaign strategists, and product development experts, many of whom have committed to supporting post-hackathon development and piloting of the most promising tools.
Judge and Pioneering Impact Founder Shreya Ghodawat, who recently won the audience prize at Kickstarting 4 Good’s latest Global Pitch Day, said:
“Using AI to protect the beings we share this planet with is one of the most important challenges of our time. What I witnessed at this hackathon was nothing short of extraordinary as in just a few hours, these innovators built tools with the potential to shift the future for animals, for our food systems, and for the planet. The energy, intention, and intelligence in that room reminded me how powerful technology becomes when it’s aligned with compassion and purpose.”
Sam Tucker Davis, Executive Director of OpenPaws, Hackathon technical lead, and fellow judge, added:
"The sophistication and dedication we saw in Berlin demonstrates that the movement of technologists for animals and planet is growing rapidly. These aren't just concepts, they're working prototypes ready for deployment."
Ash Singh added
“Code for Compassion is now a global force for good extending from San Francisco to London to Mumbai and Bangalore. The demand for impactful AI is accelerating fast. We’re excited to give these coders for compassion the platform to shine - and join them in changing the world for the better.”
Competition Results
Feeb took first place and €2,000 in development funding. Feeb works directly with networks of restaurants and wholesalers to encourage sustainable, plant based substitutions that match taste and quality via AI and make participating
Commenting, Alexander Kok, co-founder of Feeb said,
‘It’s a real honour to take first prize in a brilliant field. We had a great team on the day who are committed to developing this product and moving into the wholesale space. It’s a triple win for people, planet and animals when AI can deliver ethical produce at cheaper prices. Feeb shows that’s possible.’
Effective Events, an AI-powered influencer identification and outreach system that plugs into Linkedin to streamline outreach management, secured second place and €500. PAW (Pro Animal Wikipedians), a collaborative platform using AI to automate and improve animal welfare and sustainability content on Wikipedia and so influence the way future AI large language models are trained, won the €500 audience prize for potential future ‘ultra-impact’.
This Berlin edition marks another milestone in Electric Sheep and OpenPaws' mission to build a global movement of AI developers committed to animal protection and systemic compassion. With editions already completed in San Francisco, London, DC and Mumbai, and future events planned in Bangkok and Singapore, the Code for Compassion series is a leading light in the humane technology landscape.
