Electric Sheep and Friends of the Earth to pioneer AI training for Climate Advocates

We’re excited to share that Friends of the Earth, the world's largest grassroots environmental federation with 73 member organisations across the globe, has announced a new collaboration with pioneering AI ed-tech Electric Sheep.

Together  we’re launching the AI for Climate Action Lab — a grass roots-focussed AI training initiative at the intersection of technology and climate action.

Every year, humanity burns the equivalent of hundreds of millions of years of stored plant growth in fossil fuels.Around $143 billion per year in costs from extreme weather events is directly attributable to climate change, with the burden falling hardest on communities least responsible for causing it.

And all the while, AI is accelerating.

The question of who shapes this transformative technology, how it is produced and what it does has never mattered more for ecosystems, communities and planet.

The AI for Climate Action Lab, modelled on a combination of Electric Sheep's pioneering Futurekind Fellowship and Code for Compassion problem-solving hackathons, which have trained over 1120 people across 24 countries and generated 171 prototypes for social impact, will equip climate advocates with practical AI skills to shape the future of AI across policy, advocacy and solution building.

Making our activists a little bit more dangerous

Ash Singh, Founder and CEO of Electric Sheep said, ‘The climate crisis is one of humanity’s great challenges. Our job is to make sure AI is part of the solution, not another layer of the problem.."

Chris Graham of Friends of the Earth said, ‘we hope the lab can help  our activists as they deliver campaigns and take action in their communities. We’re excited for the impact that this collaboration will bring.’

Applications are now open to take part in the Lab. Take our very short survey to sign up here.
