Demos from Code for Compassion BRAZIL March 2026
On 29th March 2026, the Code for Compassion team hosted its first fully online hackathon, bringing together coders from across Brazil to build real solutions for the animal advocacy movement. Run entirely over Discord, the event was a pilot, a first attempt at something new.
The community in Brazil is passionate, deeply connected, and genuinely committed to making life better for animals. With a STEM ecosystem that is growing fast, in a way that mirrors what we have seen in India, it felt like the obvious home for our first online format.
Teams had six hours to go from reading the brief to submitting a working prototype, with support from expert mentors from Electric Sheep and Open Paws.
The project came straight from the people doing the ground work: Mercy for Animals, Fórum Nacional de Proteção e Defesa Animal, The Pollination Project, and Vida Veg each brought a real, urgent problem for the teams to solve.
There were total of five teams but at the end two teams could take the challenge and build prototypes.
Here are the links to the demo and prototypes created during the hackathon:
Method Finder
Challenge: Replacing Animal Use in Science, proposed by Fórum Nacional de Proteção e Defesa Animal
Solution: The tool helps researchers find reliable alternatives to animal testing. You can simply describe your experiment in plain language or paste your method into the tool. It understands what you’re trying to study and suggests proven, non-animal approaches based on existing research. It even provides results in a format you can directly use for grant applications or ethics approvals. The tool is still evolving and is in a building stage.

Plantbiz
Challenge: A free strategic planning and marketing platform for small businesses, proposed by Anderson Rodrigues, founder of Vida Veg.
Solution: Plantbiz focused on a tough reality. Around 60% of small businesses fail in their early years because they lack the right tools and financial planning. The team’s solution, Business Copilot, is a free platform built especially for small plant-based businesses that helps owners understand their finances, test decisions before making them, and plan clearly for the next five years.
Most of the platform works without AI, keeping it simple and affordable and AI is only used where it really helps, like giving insights or running simulations. These features can be unlocked by watching short ads, so the platform stays free for everyone.
The tool is designed to be very practical, easily accessible and supportive especially for those who need it the most.
